Stephen Quatrano Bio
Over the last 25 years Stephen Quatrano has identified and participated in some of the most important and interesting trends in information technology including peer-to-peer networking and distributed computing, client-server systems, decision support and data warehousing, computer telephony, VoIP, web-collaboration, content management, social networks and online communities. He has experienced the full cycle of innovation and adoption from the inside, working closely with technology leaders, managing high-performance teams and consulting with customers. He has a track record of creating clear and compelling messages, building adaptive organizations and designing systems to sustain innovation and support large-scale adoption.
Most recently, Steve co-founded Ticklr, Inc, a service that helps people stay engaged with their professional networks. In the process he has explored the application of social networking and social media on contact management strategies, CRM and sales systems, fundraising and professional networking.
Prior to Ticklr, he founded Science Media and Engagement (SME) Strategies to stimulate and inform science and civic engagement leveraging Internet technology, social networks, social media and local events.
Steve serves on an advisory board at The Right Question Project where he has also worked full time as a Director of IT and Internet strategy.
Before that, Steve experienced hyper growth in three successful start-ups, two of them being acquired by Sybase in 1990 and Cisco Systems in 1999. Although each of these started out as tiny businesses, he has provided solutions to some of the largest and most demanding companies in the US including Chemical Bank, Fidelity, MCI, Land’s End and Pepsi Cola.
Steve has been successful in many roles as an entrepreneur, a software developer, Project Manager, Director of Engineering, Software Architect and CTO. He has also worked as a curriculum and courseware developer, teacher and management consultant. He has helped create numerous branding, messaging and communications strategies and has worked on several innovative Internet business models.
For as long as Steve can remember, he has had a passion for and read extensively on the philosophy and history of science. He delights in the complex relationships between science, technology and society.
Steve is fluent in Italian, has a BA in Geography with a minor in French and Italian from Dartmouth College, and has been awarded four patents.
